While Bhutan is well-known for its commitment to happiness (and in recent months, an uptick in suicide), hopefully things will turn around with the new private college, the Royal Thimphu College.

According to a recent article in The Hindu, classes began here earlier this week on a 25-acre campus about 10 kilometers from the capital, Thimphu. The college, which is affiliated to the Royal University of Bhutan, has offer bachelor’s degrees in “computer application, business administration, commerce and arts programmes in English, economics, environmental science, Dzongkha (national language), sociology and political science.”

Currently, the campus has 16 buildings, including dormitories, dining facilities, a bookstore, a gym and a football field. However, more is planned and construction is due to be completed by 2011. By the time everything is complete, about $11 million will have been spent.

No word yet on what the tuition costs will be, nor what the first senior prank will involve.

The slum population in Dhaka has doubled in a decade to reach 3.4 million in 2006. The is number is big in the city of 12 million population. The number of slum dweller is increasing dangarously because of poverty, climate change migration and centralized economical and administrative system. Most of people look visin if they can go Dhaka the life will be change. But the marginalized rural poser after migration don’t get good job and life facilities; most involving with rickshawpullking, hawkering and construction work however rick heavy work. Within less income they lives in slums.

In the slums there is no minimum facilites of health, education and security. The children grows with high ricks of poverty , illiteracy, drug, trafficking and HIV AIDS epidemic.

In this situation “NABO JIBON KENDRO” is running a school only for the slum children. They provide good education and food for nutrition. The aim of the school is to bring the slum children in mainstream peoples participation that they can contribute in the development process. The school was established at 1995 and support from the donors from Austria. The children are happy to learn and get the opportunity to be a good citizen.

Bubisher is an initiative of Spanish journalist and blogger Gonzalo Moure that brings a mobile library full of books to children based in refugee camps in Western Sahara.

The Sahrawi people have been searching for their independence in Western Sahara since 1973 - first from Spanish rule, then Mauritania, and now Morocco. It has been called “the forgotten conflict” by many and an entire generation of Saharawis were born and raised in refugee camps. Still, despite the lack of formal governance and educational institutions, literacy and democracy are beginning to thrive in some of the harshest environs imaginable, writes John Thorne in the Christian Science Monitor.

We have included education as a topic largely to explore learning in the context of new technologies, and we are particularly interested in “constructionism,” which means, more or less, learning by doing. We will look at both education in schools and education in the DIY (do it yourself) context.

German: Education is the forming / moulding / shaping of man in terms of his being human.
